Renaissance Art Leornardo Da Vinci Essay - 665 Words

My artist is Leonardo da Vinci. He was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. The famous artist died on May 2, 1519 in Amboise, France. While he was alive he was a part of the Renaissance style of art. I decided to pick da Vinci because I don’t know that much about art history but the name Leonardo da Vinci stands out to everyone so I figured it would be interesting to learn about one of the most influential artists in history. When Leonardo was born his father, Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci took custody of him while his mother, Caterina da Vinci went off and married another man. By the age of 15 is when da Vinci’s talents really start to shine. With da Vinci having multiple talents if you were to look at two of his works of art side by side you might not see any resemblances at all, that’s because most likely one could very well be a painting and one be a blue print to something da Vinci designed. Da Vinci would probably most be known for his painting over any of his other talents like. Some of his more famous paintings are: the Mona Lisa, the Virtruvian Man, and the Last Supper. His works have combined to sell for billions of dollars, near the tops of the list of most expensi ve works of art. The Mona Lisa, highly regarded as the most famous work of da Vinci was assessed at $100 million dollars in 1962. Da Vinci’s notebook talked about earlier sold for $30.8 million dollars its self and that wasn’t even a piece of art to da Vinci. He was highly regarded in his time but his greater stature wasn’t really felt until after his death like many other famous artists. My favorite da Vinci work of art has to be the Mona Lisa. It’s such a mysterious piece of art that no one really knows the answers to. The painting is of a woman with an odd background, almost looking like tundra of a different world, with steam holes and lava. One of the biggest questions about the work of art has always been who the woman is and is she smiling
