Salem Witch Trials

Salem had a precise colorful history level(p) before the trials. The town was spilt into two parts. The left half was where anyone who didnt want to be a part of Salem township. It was in the main farmers. On the chastise were the people who wanted to be a part of Salem Town. There were 600+ people separated. Salem Town wasnt a base of tranquility.
The farmers thought that Salem settlement [the left side] was out of touch with Salem town [the right side]. The Putnams had especially thought this. The Putnams owned roughly all the land in Salem village. Putnams were the leaders of the separatist group.
The Putnams wanted to create a town separate from Salem. They had hoped that by creating a congregation they would be separate. In 1689 the official congregation was formed. Reverend Samuel Parris was the leader. Only a contract group would he urge to. He would only preach to the parts of the town that were part of the Putnam family.
Parris was on a rectors contract that gave him a modest salary, use of a domiciliate and free firewood. Yet he had received extraordinary perks. He got the deed to the house and the surrounding land. People in the village were outraged. Most refused to work at the Meeting house. They excessively withheld the taxes. The taxes were what paid for the Reverends Salary and his perks.
