The article makes several references to a number of explanations as to why people fight reform. Among the many explanations mentioned, racism and classism were curtly mentioned. I wholeheartedly believe that these are probably the most feared reasonablenesss why people fight reform. Most individuals are not willing to admit it for fear of repercussions (attack on their character, problems on the job, problems in school and/or for their children, among other things) and because, for many individuals, it may be an uncomfortable topic of discussion.
I say this because most of us are afraid of the unknown. It is easier to continue living in a comfort zone of what we are used to, or an milieu that we are familiar with; especially when it benefits us. Because of our selfishness and self-centeredness, most of us only think about ourselves and no one else.
I am not saying that, we as parents, should not be bear on with having the best education for ourselves and our children, but, it should not be at the get down of sacrificing another childs future goals, dreams, and abilities.
