Jean Piaget (1896-1980) studied how childrens thought processes develop and has been very influential in our discretion of childrens cognitive development. He believed that interaction with peers was the most minute factor in childrens cognitive development. He put precedent a theory of cognitive developmental forms and theorised that children would operate at a certain level/stage (this would also apply to adults in the Formal Operations stage). His finical insight was the role of maturation (growing up) in childrens increasing condenser to understand their world: they cannot undertake certain tasks until they are psychologically mature enough to do so.
He put forward a theory of 4 stages of development:

Children can be more cognitively skilled than Piaget recognised.
